The European Parliament launched a call for applications for the 2016 Sakharov Fellowship, taking place from Monday 20 June to Saturday 2 July 2016.
The Fellowship aims to increase the fellows’ capacity to advocate for and protect human rights, and create a network of Sakharov fellows who can share best practices and advocate on each other’s behalf. It will increase awareness of the Sakharov Prize and its network, as well as improve links between Members of the European Parliament and human rights defenders outside the EU.
The call is open to active and qualified human rights defenders in non-EU countries. Participation is competitive-based and free of charge for selected candidates.
The 2016 Sakharov Fellowship includes a 4 day training at the European Parliament (19 – 23 June), a place on the Venice School of Human Rights (24 June – 2 July), the opportunity to publish an article on a human rights issue, develop human rights training materials and join the network of Sakharov Fellows.
The deadline for submitting applications has been extended until 28 April 2016.
