2013 Strategy Paper on the situation in Belarus and recommendations for active measures to be taken by the European Union and its Member States

The Association “Human Rights in Belarus” has recently issued “The 2013 Strategy Paper on the situation in Belarus and recommendations for active measures to be taken by the European Union and its Member States”.

The Strategy presents a summary of the political situation of Belarus, highlighting the infringements on human rights and lack of democratic procedures. Moreover, the strategy contains a catalogue of measures aimed at supporting Belarusian civil society and citizens in general, by:

  • Supporting the establishment of transformation centers;
  • Providing education and training for Belarusians in the Member States of the European Union;
  • Implementing school cooperation programmes between EU Member States and Belarus;
  • Maintaining the policy of sanctions against Belarusian government; and
  • Investing in free media.

The Association ‘Human Rights in Belarus’ was founded on July 9th, 2004 in Berlin, Germany. Its aim is to support people and initiatives who get involved with the implementation of human rights, rule of law and democracy in Belarus.
